On Saturday, September 21st, 2013 in Virpazar, within the event "Lake, Heritage and Innovations", the Centre for Sustainable Tourism Initiatives (CSTI) organized a series of activities that promoted environmental protection and innovative way to improve tourism offer in the area of Skadar Lake. These activities are organized within the IPA CBC project "Art, Plastics and Recycling" jointly implemented by the Centre for Sustainable Tourism Initiatives (CSTI) from Podgorica and Marin Barleti University from Tirana and their project partners NGOs Culture Zone in Montenegro and Deliart Association in Albania.
At the press conference held at the Vir Hotel in Virpazar, we presented the concept developed during this project which established links between artists, environmentalists and tourism workers. In addition to members of the CSTI team, the representative of the Faculty of Fine Arts from Cetinje participated in this official presentation.
An exhibition of souvenirs, objects for practical use and an art installation - mural made of recycled plastic waste was organized on the square in Virpazar. These art works and other items are designed by students of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje. At the same time, producers from the Skadar Lake area promoted the rich gastronomic heritage and exhibited their products - wine, brandy, honey, cheese, olives, fruit, vegetables, etc. Visitors of the event could free taste these high quality local products and authentic homemade dishes - fish soup, doughnuts, pies, etc. In this way, gastronomic potential of the tourist offer of the Skadar Lake area is presented once again, but we also pointed out the possibility to use artists’ inspiration and promote this region as a tourist destination with raised awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
In cooperation with the Municipality of Golubovci and "Milan Vukotic" Elementary School from Golubovci, CSTI organized a cleaning action in the area of Vukovački Bridge. On this occasion, scholars, who are also members of the environmental club of this school, together with CSTI team collected plastic waste with the appropriate recycling codes. As contribution to the work of students on recycling and modeling of souvenirs and objects for practical use, at the end of the event CSTI team transported this collected waste to the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje.
