Photography Adventure - Autumn 2006

After announcing an international tender for photographers for its Photography Adventure project and receiving the applications, the Centre for Sustainable Tourism Initiatives selected the best candidates and invited them to Montenegro for a week in order to realize this very important project.

The purpose of the project was to assemble seven photographers from the region and throughout Europe, who would make a sequence of photographs of Montenegro, capturing nature, the vistas, and life, donating their seven days’ work for promotional purposes to the Centre for Sustainable Tourism Initiatives.

This unique project, supported by USAID through CHF Montenegro, was accomplished with the following recognized photographers: Daniela Aroyo (Bulgaria), Theo van der Heijdt (Netherlands), Vlada Tatarevic (Serbia), Ivan Blazev (Macedonia), Amer Kapetanovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Lazar Pejovic and Dusko Miljanic from Montenegro.

The photo sessions took place mainly in those parts of Montenegro for which there was little or no up-dated photo material for promotional purposes. Destinations such as the Bjelasica, Durmitor, Sinjajevina and Lovcen Mountains, the shepherds’ katuns in the remote northern mountains, the Moraca and Tara Canyons, the Skadarsko Lake with its surroundings, the Ada Bojana Island and Sasko Lake were covered during the project. Historical places were captured, such as the Old Towns of Ulcinj, Bar and Perast, the towns of Herceg Novi, Cetinje, Kolasin and Zabljak and other tourism attractions. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism provided a helicopter, so that additional project quality was added by making photographs of Montenegro’s beauties from the air. It is important to emphasize that many institutions were involved in the program.

The Centre for Sustainable Initiatives shall donate all the photographers’ works to the Local Tourism Organisations, Regional Tourism Organisations, the four National Parks in Montenegro and the National Tourism Organisation for the successful presentation of the emerging tourism destination of Montenegro.

Participants of the Photography Adventure project were thrilled with the idea of doing such vast and diverse shooting and were more than satisfied with the whole program. After the selection of the material, CSTI will organize an event in cooperation with the many beneficiaries and photography admirers, presenting the highlights of the Photography Adventure project.

The project’s aims:
  • Creating the tour for special interest groups and thus presenting this as additional opportunity for tour operaters who would like to work towards lengthening of the operaton season
  • Creation of the initial photography data base and sharing it with national parks, local tourism organizations and other stakeholders
  • Creating informal networks and fostering information exchange between variety of institutions, businesses and media
  • Promotion of variety of destinations within Montenegro, particularly of the ones that were less visible.
